BIO
Mariadela Araujo (Caracas, 1981) is a textile artist, designer, and educator currently based in Barcelona. Her creative practice redefines traditional weaving and embroidery techniques, bringing them into a contemporary and experimental context where she explores the interplay of color, texture, and space.
From her childhood experiences with embroidery in Venezuela to her studies in fine arts, fashion design, and textile techniques in Caracas, Rome, and Barcelona, Mariadela has developed a unique language that blurs the boundaries between art, design, and craft.
Her work transforms materials like cotton, raffia, and recycled fibers into pieces ranging from large-scale tapestries and installations to functional objects. Combining instinctive approaches with technical research, she experiments with textures and volumes, reinterpreting traditional textile methods to emphasize humanity and imperfection in a world dominated by mass production and technology.
For Mariadela, weaving is not just a technique but a language for telling stories, evoking emotions, and reflecting on the interaction between people and the spaces they inhabit. Through her work, she invites viewers to pause, observe, and reconnect with the essentials, proposing a harmonious coexistence between tradition and modernity.
Mariadela has exhibited her work in leading fairs and galleries worldwide, including cities like Paris, Brussels, Seoul, and London, and has collaborated with brands such as Loewe, Inditex, Gervasoni 1882, and EÈRA, solidifying her presence in both the design and contemporary art worlds.

“Weaving is not just a technique but a language: each thread tells a story, and each texture evokes emotions that connect us to our surroundings.”
