BIO

Jan Kaláb (Prague, Czechoslovakia, 1978) is one of the most prominent contemporary artists from his country. A pioneer of graffiti and street art in Prague, Jan was previously known as Cakes. Alongside his group, The DSK, he revolutionized the city streets, becoming an iconic figure in European street art.

Over time, Jan’s work has evolved into new forms of expression, including sculptures, light-based suspended installations, 3D work, paintings, and NFTs. His multidisciplinary approach showcases abstract designs filled with organic shapes and vibrant colors, creating dynamic compositions that appear alive. His work is a journey into new dimensions and perspectives, eliciting sensations reminiscent of déjà vu, as though recalling a special moment or melody.

A Fine Arts graduate in 2006, Jan held his first solo exhibition in 2008 at the acclaimed Trafo Gallery. Since then, his work has been showcased in renowned galleries worldwide, in cities such as New York, Miami, London, Paris, Shanghai, and Rio de Janeiro.

“My works do not aim to capture anything tangible but to create something that does not yet exist in our world, manifesting its essence visually.”
